May 2016 – August 2016
Peoria, Illinois

Associate Engineer

Caterpillar Inc.

Dr. Yuan was mainly responsible for developing, testing and debugging the embedded control system. He developed a system-level supervisory control scheme and verified its functionality and compatibility with ECM. Besides, he set up the electronic control module (ECM) wiring and CAN communication systems.

Responsibilities include:

  • Embedded Control System
  • Control Scheme Design
  • Field Testing and CAN Communication System

June 2015 – August 2015
Peoria, Illinois

Associate Engineer

Caterpillar Inc.

Dr. Yuan was responsible for modelling a multi-phase motor generator unit (MGU), developing its control strategy and conducting lab testing to verify the performance. Responsibilities include:

  • Motor Design
  • Sensitivity Analysis
  • Real-Time Simulation
  • Control System Design and Testing

May 2014 – August 2014

Power System Engineering Intern

Emerson Network Power (Vertive Co.)

Dr. Yuan conducted software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) control scheme development on rectifier side, and developed the SIL model into a processor-in-the-loop (PIL) system for real-time simulation, with DSP, PLECS and serial communication interface (SCI). Besides, he was responsible for developing a fuse detection algorithm in SIL and verifying it on the UPS test-bed.

Responsibilities include:

  • Control System Design and Verification
  • Software-in-the-loop and Processor-in-the-loop Simulation
  • Fuse Detection Algorithm Design
