Dr. Yuan was mainly responsible for developing, testing and debugging the embedded control system. He developed a system-level supervisory control scheme and verified its functionality and compatibility with ECM. Besides, he set up the electronic control module (ECM) wiring and CAN communication systems.

Dr. Yuan conducted software-in-the-loop (SIL) testing for uninterruptible power supply (UPS) control scheme development on rectifier side, and developed the SIL model into a processor-in-the-loop (PIL) system for real-time simulation, with DSP, PLECS and serial communication interface (SCI). Besides, he was responsible for developing a fuse detection algorithm in SIL and verifying it on the UPS test-bed.

During his Ph.D. study, Dr. Yuan’s research work was focusing on power distribution systems/microgrids modeling and control systems development, resilience oriented power distribution systems planning, and power distribution systems/microgrids protection improvement.
